Opening Ceremony

On the morning of 10 November, the First Conference of International Science, Technology and Innovation Forum of Boao Forum for Asia held its opening ceremony at The China-PSCs Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex. President Xi Jinping of China,  sent a congratulatory letter, and Han Zheng, Vice-Premier of the State Council of China,  delivered a video keynote speech. Ban Ki-moon, BFA Chairman of the Board (video link); Edmund Ho Hau-wah, President ISTIF; Zhou Xiaochuan, Vice Chairman of Boao Forum for Asia; Arroyo, Forum Board Member, former President of the Philippines(video link); Ho lat-seng, Chief Executive of Macao S.A.R., and Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of Hong Kong S.A.R.   delivered speeches respectively. Li Baodong, Secretary-General of Boao Forum for Asia, presided over the opening ceremony. The Ambassador of Algeria to China and representatives of the Philippines, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and other Forum initiating countries in China, as well as nearly 1,000 guests from 18 countries and regions, and nearly 100 journalists from more than 40 media attended the opening ceremony.

in the congratulatory letter, President Xi pointed out that in today's world, a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial changes are on the rise, bringing profound changes to human development and providing new paths for solving and responding to global development problems and challenges.

President Xi stressed that science and technology should benefit all mankind. At present, the world is facing various challenges such as the pneumonia epidemic. China is willing to work with other countries to strengthen scientific and technological innovation and cooperation, promote more open and inclusive international scientific and technological innovation exchanges that are mutually beneficial and shareable, and contribute to promoting global economic recovery and safeguarding people's health. The Boao Forum for Asia and the Macao S.A.R. Government jointly held the International Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation, which could provide an important platform for exchanges and cooperation in global science and technology innovation. It was hoped that the conference will focus on the theme of "Innovation Empowers Sustainable Development", brainstorming, enhancing consensus and promoting cooperation, so that science, technology and innovation can better benefit the people of all countries.

All participated parties said that science and technology innovation is the most important force driving the progress of human civilization. Science knows no borders. International co-operation is indispensable to promoting science and technology innovation and strengthening science and technology governance. Against the backdrop of the great challenges posed by the pneumonia epidemic, the holding of the International Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation will help to promote the transformation of growth patterns, post-epidemic recovery and sustainable development in all countries.
